Ravens Creed - Ravens Krieg
Satisfyingly filthy punk-infused death metal from Nottingham
With thrash and death metal riffs stylised by a gritty punk attitude, Ravens Creed's music hammers home like Motörhead on steroids. Now on their third album, the Nottingham-bred band have shown no signs of dialling back their ferocious sound.
The first 12 tracks of Ravens Krieg clock in collectively at just under half an hour, releasing a battery of short bursts of irresistibly relentless metal that rarely surpass two and a half minutes. This culminates in the 13-minute 'Carrion Screaming', a track with remorseless energy that, were it to be a soundtrack, would fit only the goriest of horror films.
Sure to be the envy of a large number of death metal acts that strive for a sound characterised by ruthlessness, Ravens Creed's sound seems natural to them. Their grainy guitars and guttural yells effortlessly radiate the kind of brutality that many bands could only dream of.
